PD dates for new WACE courses

Click here to download the 2008 Professional Development Plan for new WACE courses.

For new WACE courses beginning in 2008 and for those beginning in 2009, Department of Education and Training (DET), Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA) and Catholic Education Office (CEO) have agreed to the following dates for senior secondary PD or planning:

Monday 28 April 2008 (Day 1, Term 2)
Friday 30 May 2008 (Week 5, Term 2)
Monday 13 October 2008 (Day 1, Term 4)

Monday 28 April and Monday 13 October
Council will organise and provide a professional support program for all teachers that focuses on assessment practice, examinations and the application of grade descriptors. There will be opportunities for regional schools to negotiate alternative dates if there is a sufficient number of teachers (see proposed regional PD offerings).

Friday 30 May
Arrangements for this day are flexible. Teachers who wish to participate in school-based or regional PD activities related to the implementation of new WACE courses may do so as negotiated through their schools.

Early in 2008 schools will be surveyed about their needs and preferences for 30 May 2008. This will enable the provision of some regional PD or networking opportunities. This will occur through either face-to-face, online or via videoconferencing, as appropriate.

Council will assist AISWA, CEO and DET in the provision of regional support required and by brokering any additional support through universities, TAFEWA colleges or professional associations.
