All about the New WACE
When will students do the new courses?

The new courses will be offered by schools and will be phased in 2005-2009. To help schools implement the new system, a comprehensive professional development program, including a host of sample materials, for teachers and administrators across the State is underway. They will also have the benefit of support from their individual sectors (State, Independent Schools and Catholic Education).

Where is your child in 2007?

Year 12

New courses in Aviation, English, Engineering and Media will have replaced subjects in those areas. They will be able to study these new courses and/or existing subjects in the current system.

Year 11

They can study new courses that have already been implemented, including Aviation, English, Engineering Studies and Media Production and Analysis.

They can also study the new courses Applied Information Technology, Earth and Environmental Science, Physical Education Studies and English as an Additional Language/Dialect, which will be implemented in full. Some units in another 13 new courses will also be available.

They will be able to study these new courses and/or existing subjects in the current system.

They can study endorsed programs, and have range of non-traditional learning recognised toward meeting the WACE requirements in 2008. The new Workplace Learning program will replace Structured Workplace Learning (SWL).

Year 10

When they are in Years 11 and 12, there will be up to 50 new courses available, which will replace most of the subjects in the current system.

Their study program will consist mainly of new courses and endorsed programs; however they will be able to choose to study the remaining accredited subjects in the current system.

Kindergarten to Year 9

When they are in Years 11 and 12, the new system will have completely replaced the old system.
