WACE Transition Arrangements

Transition arrangements for completing the WACE are required for students enrolled in new courses in Year 11 in 2005 and 2006. During these two years, the WACE will be defined by the current requirements, with transition arrangements for inclusion of new courses. From the Year 11 enrolment in 2007, the WACE will be defined by the new WACE requirements.

Transition requirements for students enrolling in Year 11 in 2005 and 2006:

  • Complete at least 10 full-year (or equivalent) Council subjects (up to 40% may comprise VET subject equivalents). For students studying new courses, any two units from one of these new courses will count as a subject. Students studying a single unit will count this as a half-subject equivalent.
  • Obtain an average C grade or better in at least eight full-year (or equivalent) Council subjects. (Up to 25% of subjects may comprise VET subject equivalents.) At least four of the eight subjects must be at Year 12 level.

For students studying new courses:

    • any two different course units for which a minimum Level 4 is achieved will be deemed to count as a ‘C’ equivalent and can be counted as the equivalent of one of the eight subjects
    • any two different course units for which a minimum Level 4 is achieved and is studied during Year 12 can be counted as the equivalent of one of the four Year 12 subjects
    • there is no limit to how many new courses can be used.

  • Achieve Curriculum Council English language competence. Students must receive a C grade or better in Year 12 English, English as a Second Language, English Literature, Senior English or Vocational English (or pass the Curriculum Council English Language Competence Test). Students enrolled in the new English course will be required to demonstrate an average of Level 4 achievement across the four outcomes (or pass the English Language Competence Test).
